Sitting on the shore of Lake Wakatipu, with views of the Remarkables mountain range, Sherwood Queenstown is a one-of-a-kind destination for travellers looking to unwind in a culture-laden, creativity-driven environment.

The original mock-Tudor motor inn built in 1985, has been craftily up-cycled by its new owners, containing 78 rooms which range from lakeside studios to stylish private rooms fitted with queen-sized bunk beds for friends and families out to explore the nearby slopes and wineries. It’s not ‘typical luxury’, but it is a revolutionary approach to accommodation.

With a focus on nature, nourishment and sustainability, Sherwood features a state-of-the-art wholefoods restaurant, a large biodynamic vegetable garden, a cosy yoga studio, purpose-built dual slalom bike track and its own ski-hire facilities.

Architect Allistar Cox is known for his dark, moody interiors contributed to the distinct, mood enhancing style of Sherwood’s contemporary-yet-wholesome restaurant. The colour palate is warm and natural with dark walls, light oiled timber and marble tiles.

The hotel restaurant specialises in fresh, seasonal, soul food harvested from the onsite biodynamic vegetable garden or foraged from local orchards and surrounding farms.

The same philosophy extends to the bar, with a wine list featuring a handpicked selection of minimally processed New Zealand wines and spirits sourced from independent producers.

Director Sam Chapman, along with his business partners Stephen Marr and Adam Smith, saw an opportunity to develop Sherwood into something completely different, creating a laidback, part-luxe lifestyle destination that delivers a fresh approach to hospitality and the guest experience.
