Tasmanian railway journeys

On 1 September 2015, Tasmania’s West Coast Wilderness Railway released 3 new itineraries to commence this month. The new journeys, taking guests aboard an historic train pulled by restored steam engines, include the following:

• Rack and Gorge Journeys – a roundtrip from Queenstown via Dubbil Barril every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Running 9am-1pm, the train uses the rack and pinion system and showcases the King River Gorge and the surrounding rainforest.
• River and Rainforest Journeys – a half-day journey departing from, and returning to, the original harbourside Regatta Point station in Strahan every Wednesday and Friday at 1pm. This journey features the harbour, the rainforest at Dubbil Barril and many historic bridges.
• Queenstown Explorer – this full-day journey departs Mondays at 8.30am on a return journey from Strahan along 34.5 kilometres of track to Queenstown. This journey features the King River Gorge, the “rack” section of the railway track, surrounding rainforest and all stations along the way. The journey ends around 5.30pm at Strahan.
