Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) has released a Hanok Stay brochure, detailing hanoks (traditional Korean house) and hanok villages around the country selected and certified by KTO as outstanding accommodations where visitors can have an authentic Korean experience.
Hanoks are available throughout the country and provide a unique way to experience a different side of Korea, allowing travellers to immerse themselves in the local culture and gain a better understanding of the lifestyle of locals.
These traditional houses offer a variety of hands-on cultural programmes for visitors to experience Korean life as it used to be. Depending on the hanok, visitors can enjoy traditional food experiences, tea ceremonies, traditional cultural experiences like dressing in traditional hanbok, doing arts and crafts, calligraphy and playing traditional music and games. In addition, many of Korea’s historic villages are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites like Andong Hahoe Folk Village, Gyeongju Yangdong Village and the beautiful Jeonju Hanok Village. In Seoul itself there is the Bukchon Hanok Village, an area of traditional hanoks in the northern part of the city.
