The panoramic Finnish sauna is sure to be popular with the Instagram generation, as the sauna, its plunge pool and relaxation area have stunning 180-degree views over the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Val d’Orcia, renowned for its outstanding natural beauty. This sauna detoxifies the body, flushing out body toxins, deep cleansing pores, strengthening the immune system and stimulating metabolism. Several times a day, a member of the spa team carries out a venting ritual, when waters laced with essential oils are sprayed onto the coals generating calming, energizing and purifying steam, dependent on the oil used. The new bio-sauna is located in the middle of the spa’s tranquil lake, which is set within a disused Travertine quarry; Travertine is a form of limestone deposited by mineral springs and Adler Thermae is renowned for its thermal waters, which are piped direct from the source at Bagno Vignoni, a few minutes’ walk from the hotel (the Spafinder Wellness Awards 2016 named it Best for Hot Springs). The bio-sauna helps to clear and regenerate the respiratory tract, relieves muscle tension and joint pain, and also stimulates metabolism. These two new saunas are a welcome addition to Adler Thermae’s existing spa facilities, which include Artemisia (a steam sauna with Tuscan herbs), Salino (an Etruscan sauna with salt steam), Grotta del Filosofo (a steam bath in a cave with magical relaxation area), Argillae (a Rasul clay bath) and Grotta Salina (an underground salt bath); the Grotta del Filosofo has also received a complete overhaul. Further wellness facilities at Adler Thermae include a fitness centre, with large panoramic windows overlooking the Tuscan hills, that offers a daily programme of Pilates, Fat Burner, Yoga, TRX etc, while Aqua Gym, Pilates, Yoga & Spinning all take place in the heated outdoor lap pool. Guided daily walks and bike (mountain, road or e) tours are offered on a complimentary basis. For those who wish to head out on their own, there are 200 kilometres of GPS-supported mountain bike trails and hiking routes. Additionally, Adler Thermae has a highly qualified team of doctors and experts onsite who specialise in the fields of regenerative, preventive, complementary and gentle aesthetic medicine to supervise those guests who wish to detox, lose weight or undergo innovative non-invasive aesthetic treatments including mini-lifting with laser or Carb-O-xygen. While there are plenty of facilities and extensive landscaped gardens (that include the start of a jogging trail), Adler Thermae has just 87 rooms, giving it a very intimate feel. All of the rooms in the modern building, constructed in traditional Tuscan style, have stunning views overlooking the region’s rolling hills and a bio-climatisation system that avoids the unhealthy effects of air-conditioning regulating both temperature and humidity automatically through pipe work in the walls, ceiling and floor, to ensure a total wellness experience.
