Aaron Liersemann from Oregon’s Mt Hood Territory and the Australian Travel Portland reps have been busy attending ski shows and meeting and training agents for the past two weeks getting the word out on Oregon’s two ski areas, Mt Bachelor (located near Bend in Central Oregon) and Mt Hood (just 90 minutes from downtown Portland). Together the two areas have an extensive range of runs for beginners through to professional skiers and snowboarders. They also offer snow shoe tours, sleigh rides, cross country and snow mobiling. And at Ski Bowl, one of the three resorts on Mt Hood, 600,000 LED lights illuminate the resort to make for some of the best night time skiing and “cosmic” tubing. Liersemann has also found that Australians are intrigued by the opportunity to ski with the locals avoiding the lengthy lift lines at some of the larger resorts. The prospect of no sales tax was also a winner making the ski and the apres ski experience far more affordable.
