First voyages for MS Fridtjof Nansen

The first official pre-inaugural voyage for Hurtigruten’s new hybrid powered expedition ship, MS Fridtjof Nansen, kicks off this week with a six-day sailing from London to Liverpool, departing London’s cruise terminal on Saturday .

The exclusive pre-inaugural voyages will explore hand-picked destinations in and around the British Isles including destinations such as Isles of Scilly, Fowey, Isle of Man and Dartmouth, and give Hurtigruten guests the opportunity to experience one of the world’s most innovative ships for the first time.

“We’re so excited to see our new ship taking her first passengers on this voyage,” said Damian Perry, Managing Director of Hurtigruten Asia Pacific. “The sister ship to the MS Roald Amundsen, we’re proud to add another custom-build hybrid ship packed with green technology and large battery packs to our fleet.”

The showcase sailings will be followed by a launch at London Bridge on 23 March, followed by a sailing from London to Oslo, where the celebrations will continue in the Norwegian capital.

In addition to the exclusive pre-inaugural voyages, MS Fridtjof Nansen’s maiden season includes a series of cruises from Hamburg to the Norwegian coast, before spending the summer of 2020 exploring Greenland and Iceland.

One port visited last week was Lerwick Harbour, the most northerly commercial harbour in Britain. The 530-passenger ship’s berthing at Victoria Pier while en route from Bergen, Norway to Kirkwall, Scotland was the port’s first vessel of the year.

In the 2020/2021 southern hemisphere summer season, MS Fridtjof Nansen will join her hybrid powered sister ship MS Roald Amundsen for Hurtigruten’s signature Antarctica expeditions.
