MKM Yachts officially welcomed to the 3. Maj shipyard

Helen Mirren at the christening of Scenic Eclipse The Scenic Group’s newly formed shipbuilding company, MKM Yachts, was granted a sub concession of the 3. Maj Shipyard in Rijeka, Croatia, at an official signing ceremony on 2 July 2020. The arrangement provides Scenic with more than 21,400 square metres of the shipyard’s dock for the development and production of its ultra-luxury polar yacht fleet over the next 10 years. The newly formed business MKM Yachts, as first flagged by LATTE in April, is wholly owned by the Scenic Group and will be the contractor for Scenic’s new-build projects in Croatia. That includes the construction of Scenic Eclipse II, already underway, and the construction of a further four custom-built vessels over the next six years, all of which will continue the signature six-star ultra-luxury standard. Attending the ceremony last week was the Croatian Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Sea, Oleg Butkovic and Sasa Cokljat, Managing Director MKM Yachts.

“This is a very exciting development for the Scenic Group to build on the experience gained with the construction of Scenic Eclipse I, utilising the team we built that delivered her in difficult circumstances. Plans are well advanced for future projects and we look forward to sharing these at the appropriate time,” said Glen Moroney, Chairman of the Scenic Group. The ceremony marks a significant milestone for the Australian-founded business and demonstrates its confidence in the ultra-luxury yacht market. The business continues to secure its position as a leader in the global industry and as experts in small-ship cruising experiences. Scenic Eclipse I launched in mid-August 2019.
