Explora Journeys, the new ultra-luxury cruise line of MSC Group, held a ceremony for the float out of EXPLORA I at the Monfalcone shipyard of Fincantieri in Italy yesterday . It was the first time the 14-passenger deck ship touched water since construction began in June 2021. EXPLORA I is the first of an initial four sister ships for the new brand, and is slated to enter service in 12 months. The ships will each have a gross tonnage of approximately 64,000 gross tonnes.

“We’re one step closer to delivering the Ocean State of Mind,” Explora Journeys said of the occasion.EXPLORA I now enter the final phases of development as work moves to completing interiors, fixtures and fittings. The float-out ceremony was attended, among others, by Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of the Cruise Division of MSC Group; Fincantieri Chairman, Claudio Graziano, and newly appointed Fincantieri CEO, Pierroberto Folgiero. The construction of the innovative Explora Journeys fleet, commissioned to Fincantieri by the MSC Group in 2018, continues at a fast pace thanks to a total order worth more than €2 billion. Construction of EXPLORA II, the second ship of the new brand, is proceeding with delivery expected in summer 2024. The third and fourth ships are earmarked to debut in 2025 and 2026 respectively.
