Norway’s most ambitious hotel and urban development project, five years in the making, has opened in Oslo within the Art Deco building of Oslo Lysverker and Sommerrokvarteret. Sommerro is the latest opening for Nordic Hotels & Resorts, with the property already aligned with Preferred Hotels & Resorts’ Legend portfolio. Sommerro features 231 hotel rooms and suites, houses six restaurants, two bars, along with meeting and event spaces. The building also houses a large wellness precinct of 1,400 sqm with state-of-the-art treatment rooms, a member’s gym and the cultural heritage-marked Vestkantbadet, which will be fully renovated in November.
On the top of the building is the restaurant TAK Oslo, signed by the Swedish star chef Frida Ronge, with outdoor seating all year round and a bar. Oslo’s first year-round open rooftop pool and sauna will also be here. Sommerrogata 1 was originally built as the headquarters of the city’s electricity company, Oslo Lysverker, in 1931. The building also houses the Vestkantbadet and is iconic with its mix of neoclassicism, functionalism and Art Deco details. Sommerro was bought by Aspelin Ramm and Strawberry Brothers in 2017. After extensive renovation and development in collaboration with Byantikvaren in Oslo, Sommerro officially opened on 1 September.
As of August 2019, Nordic Hotels & Resorts has 39 operating and member-owned hotels, and one restaurant. Learn more about Sommerro at sommerrohouse.com/
