Marriott International has tapped Jason Nuell as Area Vice President for Australia, New Zealand & Pacific (ANZP) to lead the hospitality giant’s expanding footprint in the region. Nuell, who has been with Marriott since 2003, will relocate from Singapore to Sydney this month.
With 20 years of experience across four continents, he aims to build upon the solid pipeline of hotel agreements, work with property management teams to enhance brand awareness and guest experience, and drive owner returns across the portfolio, following the retirement of Sean Hunt.
Nuell’s career with Marriott has included various senior roles across Southeast Asia, China, India, the USA, and Europe. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Customer Experience and F&B Design Services Asia Pacific. His expertise encompasses brand strategy and management for Marriott’s lifestyle brands, and he has been instrumental in driving innovation within the company’s global brand management team.
Since March 2023, Marriott International has opened six new hotels in the ANZP region, including locations in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, and Port Moresby. A new opening in Adelaide is also scheduled for this month. The company has signed another 20 agreements, with plans to have more than 60 properties in the region by 2028.
On Hunt’s recent departure, Marriott International said in a statement: “We thank for his contributions to Marriott and the industry, across his 37-year tenure.”
During the transition period, Neeraj Govil, Chief Operating Officer, Asia Pacific excluding China, has served as the interim leader at Marriott International ANZP.
