The AU$70 million refurbishment of the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth is nearing completion, with the five-star hotel unveiling its new look this week.
Work is expected to finish in November, but guests can already enjoy some elements of the property’s dramatic rebirth which coincides with the Diamond Jubilee of the global Sofitel brand.
Much of the refurbishment has been led by architecture and interior design firm FK, with the theme ‘Modern Heritage’ in mind thanks to the hotel’s vibrant past.
Originally designed in a post-war minimalist style, it opened in 1966 and was the largest brick structure in the southern hemisphere. As Australia’s premier international five-star hotel, it attracted dignitaries, movie stars and royalty.
Its latest upgrade will celebrate this unique heritage and breathe new glamour into its iconic foundations, encompassing 436 guest rooms and suites, the Sofitel Club Millésime, health and wellness centre, public spaces including the grand entrance lobby, and state-of-the-art conference and event spaces.
The transformation will also see Sofitel Sydney Wentworth partner with Sydney-based hospitality group House Made Hospitality to create a multi-venue drinking and dining precinct. This will feature restaurants tilda and Delta Rue, as well as bar tilda, Wentworth Bar and one of Sydney’s largest outdoor terrace bars.
Technology also plays a crucial role in the revamp, with an online concierge app putting hotel services at guests fingertips and a streamlined check-in experience.
