PONANT State Manager NSW & ACT Kristina Sambaher recently hosted an exciting agent famil aboard L’Austral to Antarctica, guided by the expertise of Captain Fabien Roche. From November 9 to 26, the journey from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia showcased what it means to explore the polar regions the PONANT way, as travel partners and guests were treated to total immersion in the natural wonders of the Southern Hemisphere. One of the highlights of the voyage was witnessing the awe-inspiring A23a iceberg – the largest in the world – as it drifted toward the South Atlantic. With over 400 metres of thickness and nearly 3,900 square kilometres in size, the iceberg’s incredible story began in 1986 when it split from Antarctica’s coastline. After over 30 years trapped in the Weddell Sea, it is now on the move, offering a rare spectacle.

The adventure continued with stops in Antarctica, including a Zodiac cruise through Wilhelmina Bay, where pristine glaciers and ice flows greeted the group. The day’s expedition on Cuverville Island provided a magical experience, surrounded by icebergs and a bustling Gentoo Penguin colony. And a port of call to South Georgia allowed guests to visit to Royal Bay Moltke Beach, renowned for its wild weather and abundant wildlife. Throughout the trip, PONANT’s expert expedition guides shared their knowledge, ensuring guests understood the raw beauty and power of the frozen world. The famil concluded with a celebratory moment as Captain Fabien Roche performed the tradition of slicing open a bottle of champagne on the pool deck to mark the unforgettable experience. The agents were: Karen Tax, Helloworld Travel South Melbourne; Jacqui Smart, Business Leader, Travel Associates Shellharbour; Janene Ferguson, Helloworld Travel South Melbourne; Julia & Mark van Huisstede – Business Owner, italktravel & Cruise The Junction & Maitland; Kirsty McKenzie, TravelManagers.
