Luxury barge operator European Waterways will acquire Ireland’s only luxury hotel barge the Shannon Princess with the deal representing a significant expansion of its fleet. The vessel has been sailing European Waterways’ River Shannon itineraries since 2003 under the ownership of Ruairi and Olivia Gibbons, but will now become a fully owned part of the company’s fleet. Shannon Princess will continue to follow its popular itinerary, with growing demand prompting European Waterways to extend its cruising season from 2025 and a series of enhancements on the cards. These will include upgraded interiors and an expanded excursions program.

Derek Banks, Managing Director of European Waterways, expressed excitement about the acquisition. “We are thrilled to welcome Shannon Princess to the European Waterways family,” he said. “Her charm and character align perfectly with our commitment to luxury and cultural immersion.” Designed to accommodate up to 10 passengers, Shannon Princess features spacious ensuite cabins, a panoramic saloon, and a sun deck with a spa pool, perfect for alfresco dining and relaxation. The dedicated crew of five deliver high-quality service and carefully curated experiences, including private whiskey tastings, guided castle tours, and onboard cooking demonstrations.
