Lisa Kelley has been promoted to the role of Executive Director of the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO), spearheading the organisation’s mission to promote responsible travel to the destination. Kelley, a member of the polar expedition industry since 2000, has worked with IAATO for more than 20 years and most recently held the position of Deputy Executive Director. “I have had the privilege of being part of IAATO’s enduring mission for over 20 years, working within the framework of the Antarctic Treaty System to connect people with the region while protecting its unique environment,” she said. “I am honoured to now have the opportunity to lead the association I have been so passionate about for almost the entirety of my polar career and to work with its experienced membership and dedicated secretariat to evolve responsible tourism practices while continuing to preserve this pristine environment.” Officially in her new role since last December, Kelley succeeds former Executive Director Gina Greer who left IAATO in October after five years at the helm. IAATO Executive Committee Chair John McKeon welcomed Kelley to the new role. “With more than 20 years in the industry, most of which has been spent actively contributing to and evolving the association’s mission and vision to address emerging challenges, IAATO has in Lisa an experienced, knowledgeable, and dedicated leader,” he said.
