Bookings have opened for Monarto Safari Resort in South Australia’s Murraylands which will officially open on 28 May 2025 as part of the Journey Beyond portfolio. Plans to convert South Australia’s Monarto Zoo into the largest safari experience outside of Africa were first shared in 2019. The expansion included the rebranding of the zoo as Monarto Safari Park with a new five-star resort and luxe-glamping facilities originally slated for a 2021 opening. Now, the vision is finally coming to fruition with Journey Beyond to manage and operate the property, and its CEO Chris Tallent excited to be taking on the multimillion-dollar development. “With years of expertise in managing unique tourism operations in remote destinations across Australia, Journey Beyond is exceptionally well-placed to manage this cutting-edge new build,” he said. The resort, which features 78 guest rooms and 20 luxury safari tents, will offer sweeping views of the new Wild Africa precinct at Monarto Safari Park. Located just an hour’s drive from Adelaide, the Monarto Safari Resort provides an extraordinary opportunity for guests to connect with wildlife, including southern white rhinoceros, cheetah, and giraffe.

It is owned by Gerry Ryan OAM who highlighted Journey Beyond’s “expertise in crafting exceptional travel experiences”. “Our mission has always been to offer guests an unparalleled experience that connects them with the natural beauty and conservation efforts of the area,” he said. The partnership also aligns with Journey Beyond’s commitment to sustainability with Zoos South Australia also welcoming their leadership of the resort. “Their extensive knowledge of regional tourism, coupled with a strong focus on sustainability and conservation, will ensure that the resort will become a premier destination for nature enthusiasts,” CEO Elaine Bensted said. For every stay, a portion of the room rate will support conservation programs at Monarto Safari Park, reinforcing the resort’s mission to contribute to wildlife preservation.
