HX Expeditions is significantly strengthening its presence in Australia and New Zealand by forming a dedicated regional Sales and Marketing team with newly appointed Director of Sales Amber Wilson at the helm. The move marks a critical step in the company’s expansion across the region, following Wilson’s appointment to her new role and that of Steve Smotrys as Managing Director and Senior Vice President for the Americas, Australia & New Zealand. It represents the latest evolution for the expedition cruise line, following its separation from Hurtigruten amid a significant private equity investment. Australia and New Zealand have emerged as key growth areas for the company, and this dedicated team aims to build strong partnerships within the trade, with HX prioritizing a trade-focused approach.
“The expedition cruise market is dynamic and expanding, and our team’s combined expertise and passion position us to lead in this exciting sector,” Wilson said.

The new team features a blend of seasoned professionals and fresh talent, including Shannon Davis as Senior Marketing Manager, Australia & New Zealand. Davis, who will begin on 10 March, brings a wealth of experience from brands like Cathay Pacific and Cruiseco. Additionally, Gareth Coakley and Kirsty Fruin will assume Key Account Manager positions, while Jemma Gormack will take on the role of Marketing Executive. “Having worked alongside Gareth, Kirsty, and Jemma under the Hurtigruten Group, I am thrilled to unite as a team and focus exclusively on HX Expeditions’ growth,” Wilson said.
