A triple milestone for MSC Cruises and Chantiers de l’Atlantique’s World Class ships was celebrated at a ceremony in Saint-Nazaire in France last week – the delivery of MSC World America, the coin ceremony of MSC World Asia, and the steel cutting for the newly named MSC World Atlantic. Captain Gianluigi Aponte, Founder and Group Chairman of MSC, along with Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of MSC Group’s Cruise Division, Laurent Castaing, General Manager of Chantiers de l’Atlantique, and French Minister for Industry and Energy Marc Ferracci, were in attendance to mark these achievements, the result of more than 30 months of hard work at the shipyard. MSC World America, the 23rd ship in MSC’s fleet, will be officially named on 9 April in the US at the MSC Miami Cruise Terminal. Designed to cater to the US market, it offers a blend of European style and American comfort, as well as new venues and concepts. “Our new flagship is a testament to our long-standing, innovative partnership spanning over 20 years,” Vago said. “We continue to push boundaries in design, technologies, and environmental performance.”

Meanwhile, Castaing highlighted the ship’s energy efficiency. “To date, MSC World America has the best energy efficiency design index (EEDI) from the IMO, and therefore the lowest carbon footprint of the entire cruise industry,” he said. “And we will go even further with the two sisterships we are celebrating today.” MSC World America is powered by LNG engines and features advanced environmental systems, including shore power and an advanced wastewater treatment system. This focus on sustainability has earned the ship the Bureau Veritas Platinum Pearl Award for MSC’s long-term commitment to health, safety, and environmental protection. The inaugural season starts on 12 April from Miami. The ceremony also saw commemorative coins placed inside MSC World Asia as a sign of blessing during construction and to bring good fortune to the ship. The new vessel will begin service in winter 2026-27. Construction has also officially begun on MSC World Atlantic which will enter the Caribbean market in winter 2027-28.
