Luxury eco-conscious hospitality will soon have a new address in Australia with 1 Hotels today opening reservations for 1 Hotel Melbourne, its first property in the country, set to debut in June 2025. The waterfront hotel blends nature-inspired design with sustainable innovation, transforming the historic Goods Shed No. 5 into a landmark destination in collaboration with developer Riverlee. “At 1 Hotels, we believe that luxury and sustainability can—and should—go hand in hand,” said Barry Sternlicht, Founder of 1 Hotels and Chairman of Starwood Hotels. “This hotel isn’t just about where you stay—this is about how you feel, how you connect, and how travel can inspire a deeper commitment to the world around us.”

The property features 277 rooms, including 36 suites, each designed as a sanctuary. Guests will find reclaimed materials, live-edge furniture, and doors with preserved moss panels, all paying homage to the site’s maritime heritage. Rooms are also equipped with energy-efficient technology and natural, local amenities, including Bamford Wellness Spa products. “Opening reservations for 1 Hotel Melbourne is an exciting milestone as we bring our mission-driven hospitality to Australia,” said Raul Leal, CEO of Starwood Hotels. “This property is a testament to our dedication to sustainability and the extraordinary guest experiences that define 1 Hotels.” David Lee, Development Director at Riverlee, highlighted the cultural significance of the project: “Through our partnership with 1 Hotels, we have reimagined this heritage waterfront site into a sustainable luxury destination that honours Melbourne’s maritime past while setting new benchmarks for environmental stewardship.”
