Accor will launch its first luxury hotel in Porto in 2028 when the newly signed Sofitel Porto, its second Sofitel in Portugal, will open its doors.
The second collaboration between the French hotel giant and real estate firm Propreal Capital Partners, following Sofitel Barcelona Skipper, the hotel will be strategically located in the heart of the city between Avenida dos Aliados and Rua de Santa Catarina.
With 132 rooms, Sofitel Porto will span 11,000 square metres with vast public spaces, carefully designed green spaces and multiple dining concepts with potential partnerships with Portuguese celebrity chefs.
“Porto is a city with a deep cultural and historical identity, and we are honored to introduce Sofitel in such a prestigious location,” Maud Bailly, CEO of Sofitel Legend, Sofitel, MGallery and Emblems said.
“True to our brand promise of building cultural bridges between French and local cultures, Sofitel Porto will further strengthen the deep-rooted connection between Portugal and France.”
The property’s protected façade will be carefully preserved, while the interior design, led by renowned designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán, will highlight the building’s identity, fusing “Portuguese artistry” with “French refinement”.
Propreal Founder and CEO Yves de Kerdanet highlighted the Iberian Peninsula as a “key focus” for the investment firm.
“We continue to see strong growth potential in the region and remain committed to identifying and actively developing landmark assets where we can create value for our investors,” he said. “With Sofitel Porto, we have secured an exceptional location in the heart of a booming city, ensuring that this property will set a new standard for luxury hospitality in the region.”
Meanwhile, Xavier Grange, Chief Development Officer for Sofitel, Sofitel Legend, MGallery & Emblems, flagged more Portuguese properties ahead.
“Accor is committed to delivering exceptional luxury properties across Portugal’s most sought-after destinations, from Lisbon and Porto to resort destinations of Comporta, Douro Valley, and the Algarve,” he said.
