The upcoming launch of InterContinental Brisbane in late June, will see the hotel will take over the site of the former Hilton Brisbane, marking a new chapter for the historic property and the brand’s debut in the Queensland capital.
“We knew it would take a special property to bring our iconic InterContinental brand to life in Brisbane and are incredibly proud to partner with ISPT in support of the rejuvenation of this incredible asset and we look forward to creating an indelible beacon of hospitality for Brisbane,” Cameron Burke, Director of Development, Australasia & Pacific, IHG Hotels & Resorts said
“The Brisbane hotel market, and South East Queensland region, is entering a golden era fuelled by transformative infrastructure projects, a booming tourism sector and the countdown to the 2032 Olympics. With record investment and a surge in both corporate and leisure demand, the region is fast becoming Australia’s most dynamic hospitality hotspot.”The new InterContinental Brisbane, located at 150 Elizabeth Street, is the only hotel in Australia designed by acclaimed Modernist architect Harry Seidler. It will be part of a broader transformation of the Elizabeth Street precinct by development firm ISPT, integrating the hotel with the Wintergarden and Regent Theatre to create a vibrant, multi-use urban destination. “Leveraging ISPT’s expertise in placemaking and curating urban experiences, this precinct is set to transform Brisbane’s CBD. It will seamlessly integrate the Regent Theatre, Wintergarden retail and dining offering, alongside a world-class InterContinental Hotel,” Tom Waters, Head of Development Office, Industrial, Retail and Mixed Use at ISPT said.
“Together, we share a vision to see the hotel completely revitalised and we’re thrilled to be embarking on this transformative project with IHG.”The hotel will undergo a two-year transformation which, once complete, will see the hotel feature 321 luxury guest rooms, four restaurants and bars, and expansive conference facilities. InterContinental Brisbane joins IHG’s growing luxury portfolio in Queensland, becoming its third property in the state alongside InterContinental Hayman Island and InterContinental Sanctuary Cove. With 69 hotels operating in Australasia and 26 more in the pipeline, IHG continues to strengthen its presence in the region.
