A new 20-year ‘Tourism Future’ report released by the Queensland Government this week has pinpointed cruising as a key focus for the state.
‘Destination 2045‘ “is a bold plan to deliver Queensland’s tourism future and position us as a global tourism leader,” the government said. Priorities outlined in the report are centred around Ecotourism, Events, Connectivity, Experiences, Brand and Industry. In reference to ‘connecting the region to the world,’ the report stated the government would continue to invest in cruise travel.Subscribe to LATTE Cruise’s free eNewsletter to keep up to date with everything in the luxury cruise space.Of four initiatives in the report highlighted to drill down into, one was dedicated to cruising, being:
“Position Queensland as a leader in cruise tourism by attracting more cruise ships, supporting port development and working with operators to enhance onshore visitor experiences,” the report said.
The Queensland Government said the activity that will be required to pursue that 20-year goal hinges on “identifying opportunities for strategic cruise and marine infrastructure enhancements to support visitors using terminals and docks, and increase the capacity for cruise visits across the state.”
Further, the authority said it was important that to improve connectivity with the state, it was vital to “ensure long-term and day-use tourism opportunities are considered as part of the masterplans developed for state boat harbour.”
