European Waterways is tapping into the immersive travel trend by introducing a new range of Active Experience Cruises that deliver an expanded range of activities to guests aboard its barges. The company revealed that the new program comes as it sees rising numbers of a different kind of guest, described as “active, inquisitive and seeing meaningful, memory-rich experiential travel”.

“Many modern travellers crave more than just a beautiful view: they want stories, hands-on experiences, and a deeper sense of connection. Whatever their interests may be, our guests can set the pace.” European Waterways Managing Director Derek Banks said. Available as private charters, the company’s Active Experience Cruises are entirely tailor-made featuring activities like a around of golf at a nearby championship course, a hike or cycle through alpine vineyards, kayaking or paddleboarding on rivers and lagoons, sunrise or sunset yoga sessions or a hands-on cooking experience.“Experience the essence of flexibility, curated entirely around your interests, lifestyle, and preferences, before returning to the luxury of your very own ‘private floating villa’, the cruise operator said. Each hotel barge accommodates just 8 to 20 guests, with every cruise fully crewed, with a skilled Captain, private guide, gourmet chef, and attentive crew on board. Destinations also reflect the boutique experience, with many described as “off-the-beaten-path” and not easily accessed by larger vessels.
