The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection christened Luminara yesterday afternoon during a celebratory ceremony in Barcelona, led by internationally acclaimed actress Simone Ashley. The British actress is known for her roles in Bridgerton and Sex Education. The occasion signals a key moment in the brand’s continued evolution, as Luminara becomes the third superyacht to join The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection’s growing fleet, ahead of its maiden voyage from Monte Carlo to Rome on 3 July.

Set against the backdrop of the Mediterranean, the celebration brought together senior leadership from The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection and Marriott International, along with luxury brand collaborators, prominent media (including LATTE as the sole trade media outlet), and global tastemakers across fashion, design, culinary, and travel.
Guests enjoyed an afternoon of Champagne, canapés, and live music, anchored by remarks from Ernesto Fara, President of The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, Captain Magnus Bengtsson, and General Manager Muna Azab — each reflecting on the vision, craftsmanship, and purpose behind Luminara.

“This magnificent new yacht brings together inspired design, world-class cuisine, and enriching itineraries — all in a setting that invites meaningful connection and discovery,” said Fara.
In keeping with maritime tradition, Ashley — named godmother of Luminara — shared a dedication for the voyages ahead, then led a toast that signaled the ceremonial breaking of a bottle of Champagne across the mast as the yacht’s horn sounded, marking the beginning of Luminara’s journey. As godmother, Ashley embodies the role of symbolic guardian, bestowing good fortune and safe passage for the yacht and all who sail aboard.
“It’s an extraordinary honour to be named godmother of Luminara — a yacht that represents the very best of exploration, artistry, and hospitality,” said Ashley. “Both travel and a love for the ocean have always played a profound role in my life. They open us up, invite us to look more closely, to listen more deeply, and to understand the world and ourselves in new ways. Celebrating the spirit of discovery at the heart of The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection — a brand that creates space for people to connect across cultures and continents — feels especially resonant to me.” Spanning 242 metres (794 feet) and accommodating up to 452 guests, Luminara features 226 ocean-view suites, including a new Residential Suite category.
Onboard offerings include refined dining concepts, a dedicated wine vault, The Ritz-Carlton Spa®, and a signature marina providing direct access to the sea. Envisioned in collaboration with AD Associates, Chapi Design Luxury Division, and dpa lighting consultants, Luminara reflects a sophisticated vision of contemporary yacht design — highlighted by seamless indoor-outdoor living, sculptural lighting, and a curated art collection featuring works by Paul Klee, Andy Warhol, Henri Matisse, and others. Following the christening, Luminara will embark on a seven-night maiden voyage from Monte Carlo to Rome on 3 July 2025. After its Mediterranean season, the yacht will sail through Africa and the Indian Ocean before beginning its inaugural season in the Asia-Pacific region in December 2025, followed by the company’s first voyages to Alaska and Canada in summer 2026.
