W Hotels has declared W Florence now open, housed in the former Grand Hotel Majestic. W Florence follows the recently unveiled W Prague, W Budapest and the brand’s first Italian property, W Rome, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to Europe.
W Florence is located on Piazza dell’Unità Italiana, about a 10-minute walk from the Duomo and nearby the Basilica di Santa Maria Novella and city-centre shopping district. The hotel offers 119 guestrooms, including 16 suites and one Penthouse, as well as an indoor-outdoor courtyard and dining venues. The crown jewel of the hotel is the rooftop garden, offering views of Florence’s iconic architecture and rooftops.
The W Lounge is the heart of the property, offering live music with curated DJ sets and serving reinterpretations of classic cocktails. Anchored by a partially covered central courtyard, W Lounge channels 1960s nostalgia, complete with furniture and design elements inspired by Italian industrialists such as Joe Colombo.
The courtyard serves as an internal piazza, connecting the dining venues and public areas. Once the mezzanine of a bank, the space has been updated with retro Italian-inspired seating, green walls and plants.
The guestrooms and suites incorporate marble accents and a light installation above every bed. Windows, terraces and balconies frame views of the city The Penthouse suite has a 140-square-metre terrace with views of St. Lorenzo Cathedral, the Duomo and beyond.
On the dining front, Tratto offers contemporary Italian food, born from the vision of the culinary collective, Trattoria contemporanea. This will be the collective’s second location after its Michelin-starred restaurant in Lomazzo, near Lake Como. Tratto will operate across a main restaurant and bar on the ground floor of the hotel, as well as the W Lounge, courtyard and room service.
Zefiro Rooftop, the hotel’s rooftop restaurant, will open in late summer. The venue will offer craft cocktails, small bites and such programming as pop-up pizza events and performances from local and international DJs and musicians. Also slated to open later this summer will be a restaurant by Akira Back. The Michelin-starred chef will create a menu of contemporary Japanese and Korean heritage cuisine.
