The stylishly designed, peaceful onboard spa draws upon the holistic wellness philosophy of Scandinavian culture – a lifestyle rooted in finding synergy between physical, mental, emotional and social being.For centuries, hot-cold therapy has been a key element of the Nordic bathing culture and is designed to detox the body and boost circulation. A traditional Nordic bathing ritual involves working up a sweat in a wood-heated sauna while breathing in the rich scent of pine, then plunging into an ice-cold pool or taking a cold bucket shower. This process is then repeated until the desired outcome is achieved.

On board Viking Vela and her ocean ship fleet mates, guests can choose to enjoy the most unique treatment at sea; a few minutes in the snow grotto, where snowflakes will gently descend from the ceiling through chilled air, before reclining in one of the heated chaise lounge chairs. Or opt for the cold plunge pool followed by a soak in the hydrotherapy pool or jacuzzi, or sweat it out in the steam room. The spa is also equipped for optional treatments including a relaxing Swedish massage or facial, and best of all – there’s no sales pressure.
