World Resorts of Distinction (WRD) have been appointed Australian market representatives for the Soneva Group, which includes Soneva Fushi and Soneva in Aqua in the Maldives, and Soneva Kiri in Thailand. The company is also planning to open its newest property Soneva Jani later this year, which is located in the Noonu Atoll in the Maldives. The success of the Soneva brand has previously paved the way for Six Senses Resorts and Spas, who WRD previously worked with for 10 years, boasting award-winning properties in Asia, the Middle East and Europe. Under owners and creative directors Eva and Sonu Shivdasani’s direction, the Six Senses brand gained a global following before being sold in 2012. ‘We are beyond delighted to welcome the elite Soneva brand back into the WRD portfolio. They have always been a benchmark in terms of luxury resorts and our whole team is excited to be working with such stunning properties,’ says World Resorts of Distinction Managing Director, Fiona Wozney. Meaning ‘wisdom’ in Sanskrit, Soneva Jani will comprise 24 Water Villas and 32 Island Villas. The resort is being built on a large island surrounded by four smaller islands in the middle of a large, five-kilometre turquoise lagoon. Four of the five islands will remain untouched so it will be the lowest density development in the Maldives. Construction is underway and the resort is expected to open by late 2016.
