Belmond has unveiled the interiors of L’Observatoire, a new artist-designed carriage which will join its Venice Simplon-Orient Express in March 2025 as the most spacious and exclusive accommodation type on the train. The “artwork in motion” has been designed by renowned artist JR and represents the first carriage designed by an artist on board. It is designed to “spark curiosity and a sense of wonder”.

Several “micro-environments” make up the new offering including a bedroom featuring a free-standing bathtub, an adjoining bathroom, a lounge, library and hidden tea room. Meanwhile, the bedroom features green leather scalloping designed to resemble leaves.

Guests can reconfigure the space into a private dining area for up to five people, while a cocoon-like day bed at window level is the perfect spot to take in the passing landscapes or read one of the many books from the library.
