A panel of experts shared their insights into Thailand’s sustainable tourism and conservation initiatives at the W Sydney last week. The Sustainable Tourism Showcase line-up included: Trevor May, Cluster General Manager, Phuket Marriott Resort & Spa, Merlin Beach; Graeme Lunn, Director of Sales & Marketing, Le Meridien Phuket Beach Resort; Phornphan Kitsupee, Group Director of Sales, RAKxa Integrative Wellness; and Sherly Handjojo, Marketing Manager, Tourism Authority of Thailand. Hosted by Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Oceania Director Pichaya Saisaengchan, the event also featured a one-on-one discussion between MC Richard Taylor, Director of Membership & Industry Affairs at the Australian Travel Industry Association (ATIA), and John Roberts, Director of Elephants & Conservation at the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation and Group Director Sustainability & Conservation, Minor Hotels.

The discussion centred around John’s 20 plus year history working with elephants in Thailand, as well as other conservation projects he is involved in across the country. Guests enjoyed Thai-inspired cocktails and canapes on arrival, with trade and industry guests also mingling with Hataya Khusakul, Consul-General of Thailand.
