Villa San Michele in Florence Italy has been confirmed as the latest Belmond hotel to undergo extensive renovation, with the 15th century property to reopen in time for the 2026 season.
The transformation of the former monastery is now underway, and will see its room count reduced from 42 to 38 keys, including three signature suites along with 28 suites and junior suites.
“Reflecting Belmond’s commitment to preserving heritage for the future through thoughtful renovations, this initiative will meticulously safeguard the historical architecture of Villa San Michele,” the luxury hospitality firm said.
“The restoration will care for the existing structure whilst reimagining the hotel’s spaces within its inspiring location, steeped in history and culture.” All rooms and suites will be completely redesigned under the creative direction of Florence-based Luigi Fragola Architects in close collaboration with Belmond’s in-house design team. Bookings for Villa San Michele will reopen in spring 2025.
