A new CEO for Dubai-based hospitality group Jumeirah has been named, with Thomas B. Meier filling the position vacated by Katerina Giannouka at the start of 2024.
Meier, who was appointed COO in October 2021, has held the position of Interim CEO since Giannouka’s sudden departure. He also previously fulfilled the same duties after the exit of Jose Silva from the business in 2022.
Now as CEO, Meier will guide the luxury hotel firm towards the ambitious goals set out in its Mission 2030. These include the doubling of its hotel portfolio which means it will need to open 25 hotels over the next five years.
“Jumeirah has always set new benchmarks in luxury hospitality, consistently delivering extraordinary guest experiences. As we gear up for the opening of Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab and continue to expand into new markets, I am honoured to lead Jumeirah’s next chapter,” Meier said.
“With bold ambitions, Jumeirah will continue to innovate, staying ahead of industry trends and exceeding the ever-evolving expectations of the most discerning guests. Our vision is to establish Jumeirah as one of the foremost influential hospitality brands worldwide.” Already Meier has achieved several milestones including Jumeirah’s African debut at the end of last year with the launch of Jumeriah Thanda Island in Tanzania and Jumeirah Thanda Safari in South Africa. As well as the March 2025 opening of Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab in the UAE, the company is preparing for the opening of Jumeirah Red Sea in Saudi Arabia and Jumeirah Le Richmond Geneva in Switzerland. Meanwhile, Jumeirah confirmed it is “actively pursuing” owner and operator opportunities in major gateway cities and resort destinations worldwide.
