Six Senses sustainability efforts gain highest level of certification

Six Senses has achieved the highest level of certification by Control Union, in recognition of the hotel brand’s commitment to sustainability across its properties. Control Union is a globally recognised body accredited by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). The certification involves third-party audits to ensure sustainability claims are backed by measurable actions to combat “greenwashing”. The accreditation acts as a “mark of trust and credibility” in the area of sustainability and acknowledges the company’s efforts in terms of environmental protection, cultural heritage enhancement and community engagement, according to Six Senses Vice President of Sustainability Jeff Smith. “It marks a proud moment for our individual Six Senses properties included in this certification and their sustainability teams, who work proactively to provide uncompromising hospitality, environmentally cognizant operations, an outstanding guest experience, and high levels of engagement among colleagues and the local community,” he said. Six Senses properties also lead by example with initiatives like the Journey to Plastic Freedom, which aims to eliminate plastic use within the industry, and a sustainability fund, which allocates 0.5% of hotel revenue to local projects. “Sustainability is ingrained in the Six Senses culture and has been from the very beginning in 1995,” Smith said. He highlighted the company’s consistent approach to sustainability, from hotel operations and design to local community impacts and the use of renewable energy.
