Avalon Waterways has officially launched its new Bordeaux river cruise experience, marking a significant milestone for the river cruise line.
Following an exclusive VIP inaugural sailing, the first-ever departure of Avalon’s Bonjour Bordeaux: Châteaux, Wineries & Charming Villages itinerary has set sail, welcoming guests aboard the newly refreshed Avalon Artistry II.
“The wait is over and the wine is flowing – we are thrilled to officially embark on this new journey through Bordeaux,” Pam Hoffee, President of Avalon Waterways, said. “With our first guests embarking on their holiday, we’re not just introducing a new itinerary, we’re elevating the experience of Bordeaux itself, offering immersive moments that blend history, culture, cuisine and discovery in every sip and step.”
The eight-day itinerary features a blend of Active, Discovery, and Classic excursions that highlight Bordeaux’s world-renowned wine region. Guests will experience the historic Château de la Brêde in Cadillac-sur-Garonne, taste the celebrated Sauternes wine, and explore vineyards by e-bike in Médoc. The journey also includes a UNESCO-listed tour of the Citadel of Blaye, a visit to the iconic Saint-Émilion, and a chance to sample oysters in Arcachon.
Avalon’s immersive excursions also include options like a pastry baking class, a wine and chocolate pairing, or a visit to Bordeaux’s Marché des Capucins, known as the “Belly of Bordeaux.”
The Bonjour Bordeaux cruise can also be combined with Avalon’s Seine, Rhône, and Rhine River cruises for extended journeys through France. “We’re not just offering a new itinerary—we’re giving our guests the chance to uncork all of France with Avalon in 2025 and beyond,” Hoffee said.
