Former NASA astronaut Dr Sandra H. “Sandy” Magnus will join an exclusive Aurora Expeditions voyage in August 2026, offering travellers a unique opportunity to explore some of the world’s most remote destinations alongside a pioneering space explorer.
Magnus, an experienced astronaut and aerospace engineer, has spent over 150 days in space, including missions to the International Space Station (ISS) and participation in the final space shuttle flight, STS-135. “I have spent my career exploring the vastness of space, but there is still so much to discover right here on our own planet,” she said. “I’m excited to partner with Aurora Expeditions and share in the adventure of exploring Earth’s polar regions.”
CEO of Aurora Expeditions Michael Heath explained that Magnus’ participation in the itinerary aligns with its long-term vision. “Aurora Expeditions is dedicated to fostering a deeper connection between our travellers and the natural world,” he said. “Having Dr. Magnus onboard offers an extraordinary chance to learn from a pioneering explorer whose experiences extend beyond our planet.”
During the voyage, Magnus will offer passengers her expert insights through lectures and guided discussions, making connections between space exploration and the polar regions. Her focus will highlight the importance of scientific research, environmental stewardship, and the spirit of discovery that defines both disciplines.
The journey, entitled Jewels of the Arctic – Greenland Solar Eclipse (2-16 August 2026), will take travellers through Svalbard and East Greenland. Highlights include witnessing a solar eclipse, observing Arctic wildlife, and experiencing the vast wilderness of Greenland.
