AmaWaterways’ highly-anticipated, luxury river cruising world-first operation in Colombia, South America, was launched last weekend.
The first of two purpose-built riverboats, the 60-guest AmaMagdalena commenced service on the Magdalena River.
The core programs are seven-night voyages between Barranquilla to Cartagena (and vice versa), encompassing ports and destinations such as Santa Barbara de Pinto, Mompox, El Banco, Magangue and Calamar. Activities include walking tours, nature experiences, tuk tuk rides, birdwatching, a visit to the walled city of Cartagena and an exclusive Jazz Street Street Performance in Mompox, and more.

“I’m thrilled to announce that today marks the beginning of a new chapter as our AmaMagdalena has officially begun its journey, becoming the first-ever river cruise on the Magdalena River.”
Kirst continued, saying “Launching a new destination takes vision, collaboration and a deep respect for the communities that so graciously welcomed us. I’m incredibly proud of the teamwork behind this moment, from working with government officials and local artisans to the dedication of our AmaFamily, who helped bring this vision to life.
“We worked hand-in-hand to ensure that the AmaMagdalena reflects the vibrant colours, rich culture and deep-rooted spirit of Colombia.”
Kirst said with each visit to Colombia she has experienced a “heartfelt embrace”…with a “deep sense of community”.
“The spirit and hospitality of the Colombian people created an atmosphere that touched us all — an experience that I know our guests will cherish forever.
And to those preparing to experience Colombia with us, we can’t wait for you to discover what makes this journey unlike any other!” she concluded.
