JW Marriott has officially opened its first Mediterranean beach resort and its first Greek property, with the launch of JW Marriott Crete Resort & Spa. Located near Chania along 100 acres of pristine coastline, the opening of the new hotel is being hailed as a “milestone moment” for the brand. “This extraordinary property captures the essence of the JW Marriott brand, pairing warm, intuitive service with serene, thoughtfully designed spaces that invite guests to be present and truly connect,” Bruce Rohr, Vice President and Global Brand Leader, JW Marriott said. With 160 rooms, suites, and villas, many featuring private pools and sweeping views of the Aegean Sea, the resort integrates architecture with Crete’s natural beauty and cultural heritage. Designed by Athens-based studio Block722, the resort incorporates planted roofs, olive and carob tree groves, and natural materials including marble and wood.

Inside, earthy Mediterranean tones, sculptural lighting and ceramic accents pay homage to the island’s traditions with a modern twist. The resort also emphasises sustainability with systems that include geothermal and solar energy, along with the use of treated grey water for irrigation. Gastronomy is a key focus at the JW Marriott Crete Resort with six venues which include ANOEE, led by chef Manolis Papoutsakis, and Õnalos, which offers a sea-to-table experience. Ingredients are locally sourced, many from the resort’s JW Garden. The resort is also home to Europe’s first JW Market, a café-retail concept dedicated to locally sourced products, while its wellness sanctuary, ANOSEAS Spa, offers immersive therapies rooted in traditional Cretan practices. Families are also well catered to with Phestos Den, nature-based play zones, and curated excursions.
