Hawaii’s Moana Surfrider has reached a major milestone in its ongoing renewal, unveiling its refreshed lobby and welcoming guests to newly renovated rooms in the Tower Wing. The latest phase of its transformation comes as Waikiki’s first hotel prepares to mark its 125th anniversary in March 2026. “We are honouring the Moana Surfrider’s timeless legacy by illuminating architectural details and incorporating refined materials,” said Thomas Foti, Biplex General Manager, Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort and Spa, and Sheraton Princess Kaiulani.

“The renovated Tower Wing and historic lobby beautifully capture this vision, offering guests distinctly curated environments that are welcoming, restorative, and undeniably luxurious.” The updated lobby blends the charm of the hotel’s Victorian heritage with modern elegance. Renovations include newly refinished original wood flooring, custom-designed transitional furnishings, and bespoke art pieces by Kristen Reyno (Lola Pilar Hawaii), incorporating botanical elements of the hotel’s Banyan tree.
The front desk now features “elegant” check-in pods and a sculptural lighting fixture inspired by the courtyard’s tree, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Trees. The beloved Vintage 1901 piano bar continues to offer a versatile setting for dining and gatherings. In the Tower Wing, guestrooms and suites have been reimagined as calming modern beach luxury retreats. Rooms are available in king or new two-queen bed configurations and include curved banquette seating areas, integrated workspaces, a custom-designed reading area, and a refreshment station with a coffee maker and mini refrigerator. Expansive lanais offer city, ocean, and Leahi (Diamond Head) views.Tower Wing suites feature “expansive” living rooms with a dining table for four guests, wet bar, seating area, and entertainment centre. Banyan and Diamond Wing updates are next on the agenda under the renovation plans, scheduled for Autumn and Winter 2025, respectively.
