Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise says it expects to open its new thermal bathing destination, BASIN Glacial Waters, on 15 September 2025. The indoor-outdoor facility, according to Fairmont, “is set to revolutionise wellness in the Canadian Rockies.”
The wellness facility has been two decades in the making and signifies the completion of a CAN $130 million renovation at the property, which included all guestrooms and suites and the redesign of the Fairmont Spa. BASIN Glacial Waters (like the hotel itself) sits at an elevation of 1,600 metres with views of Lake Louise and the Victoria Glacier—the facility’s mineral-rich, natural water source.
Guests can enjoy a self-guided circuit through the varying heat and humidity states of the traditional Finnish and Bio Saunas, the Aufguss Sauna, Steam Rooms, Hot Stone Massage Room and Silent Salt Relax Room. In addition, a series of pools of diverse temperatures, including the Reflexology Pool, Infinity Pool (spanning onto the outdoor terrace) and Kneipp Walk (for standing contrast bathing) will be available to guests. Two wet treatment rooms enhance the thermotherapy cycle, one of which is modelled after a traditional Hammam.
Beyond the wellness spaces, the Glacier Lounge is an open, communal space to rehydrate and restore indoors, with a menu of simple and light dishes. A selection of elixirs, tonics, nootropics and adaptogens will also be on hand. Good to know: premium Champagne and craft beverages will also be available.
Wellness Journeys and Retreats
Five curated wellness journeys (named “Trails”) will be available to book, as well. For example, the Stillness Trail is intended to soothe the nervous system and set the body into the perfect state for a deep rest, while the Presence Trail is designed to counteract jet lag and calm an anxious mind. The Aufguss Ceremony is BASIN’s signature treatment. This group session will be led by “sauna masters” performing traditional oil-infused steam rituals in the outdoor Aufguss.
For a more in-depth experience, the BASIN Signature Retreat comprises BASIN access, a Glacier Lounge tasting and a guided wellness-in-nature experience. In addition, the resort offers wellness-focused outdoor activities, such as small-group Forest Bathing, a Silent Meditation Walk or a natural cold plunge with guided breathwork in the glacial waters of Lake Louise.
A New Brand Standard
Fairmont also announced that BASIN is “poised to become a flagship for the group’s latest wellbeing platform.” The facility at Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise will be accessible daily and year-round. Reservations for BASIN are live for hotel guests. Access passes for non-hotel guests will be introduced later.
