Los Angeles is renowned for its impressive retail experiences. To get the most out of these experiences, here are the best places to explore in the City of Angels.

Melrose Place

On two leafy blocks adjacent to West Hollywood’s Design District is a collection of luxury boutiques including Santa Maria Novella, Marni, Bottega Veneta, The Row, Oscar de la Renta, Monique Lhuillier, and Mansur Gavriel. Share a photo of a beloved pet (cat, dog, bunny—you name it) within the ivy-clad walls of Irene Neuwirth, a fine jewellery boutique located across from the charming Alfred Tea Room, and the jeweller will create a hand-carved pet-portrait ring painted with crystal quartz and set with precious and semi-precious stones. A yellow-gold version of such a ring, with .15 diamond carats, is priced at $8,930.

Venice

One of L.A.’s most popular walking streets, Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice is lined with unique boutiques, coffee shops, and restaurants. Stop in at Pretties, the home of the original 90s BabyTee, for lingerie that’s handmade in L.A. and visit Strange Invisible Perfumes for pure apothecary products and fragrances that are crafted in-house. On the hunt for a custom hat? Look to Nick Fouquet, a hatmaker with a celebrity following (think Pharrell and Madonna) who creates custom pieces at his shop: a little out-of-the-way house not far from Abbot Kinney on Lincoln Boulevard. This intimate setting attracts customers from around the world, some of whom travel to Los Angeles for the sole purpose of bringing home a one-of-a-kind Nick Fouquet hat. Choose from multiple fabrics and ribbons—nothing is off limits. Bespoke hats begin at $1,250.

West Hollywood

West Hollywood has several walkable shopping areas within its trendy 1.9 square miles. The Design District, located along Melrose Avenue and Beverly Boulevard near their intersections with Robertson Boulevard, houses a mix of global designer flagships including Christian Louboutin, Moschino, Stella McCartney, ALLSAINTS and rag & bone. Les Habitudes, Hugo Boss, and Badgley Mischka are just a few of the boutiques at Sunset Boulevard’s buzzy Sunset Plaza.

From Santa Monica to Glendale, plenty of services are available to make planning your day easier and shopping more fun. At The Grove, Palisades Village, and The Americana at Brand, take advantage of assistance with gifting and shopping as well as with travel and meal reservations. The concierge at Westfield Century City (located across from Sephora) is on call and ready to assist with transportation, restaurant reservations, and gifting needs.
