Sydney hosted the 100th National Assembly of Skål International Australia this month with delegates coming to attend from across Australia, New Zealand and Vanuatu. Coordinated by Skål International Sydney, the event was officially opened at a cocktail evening at The Apprentice Restaurant, TAFE Ultimo’s hospitality training restaurant, with a Welcome to Country by Gadigal Elder Uncle Allen Madden. Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism and Major Events, Geoff Provest, addressed the delegation about the importance of tourism organisations such as Skål and the importance of tourism for Australia. Provest took time to meet with and thank the hospitality students who were working hard behind the scenes and congratulated them on their future careers in tourism. The delegation met to discuss Skål International Australia business and to discuss initiatives to support members in their businesses across Australia. Two particular areas of discussion were around sustainable tourism and supporting and fostering the development of young members as they begin their careers in tourism. The event was officially closed with a Gala dinner that included the cutting of a cake by Skål International Australia President Alfred Merse and Skål International Sydney President Walter Nand, to mark the 100th National Assembly.
