Crystal Expedition Cruises’ maiden ship, Crystal Endeavor, has completed its second and final sea trials ahead of its “technical delivery” on 27 May 2021. During sea trials Crystal Endeavor underwent rigorous performance and operational tests on the ship’s systems, machinery, and engines, including safety, navigation and propulsion systems, and noise and vibration measurements.

The helideck aboard Crystal Endeavor The onboard team noted that the ship “is an absolute gem and performed like a dream, far exceeding specifications.” For example, the ship “crash-stopped” from full speed to zero within 660 metres (the length of 4 ships), which far exceeds the required 1,700 metres (the length of 10 ships). The maneuverability and turning circle test of the ship also surpassed standards. Noise measured at 10% lower than requirements, with vibration measuring up to 80% lower than requirements. From bow to stern, the 20,200 gross tonne Crystal Endeavor is designed with power, efficiency, and the environments of the world in mind. Crystal President, Jack Anderson, says the vessel will be the most spacious, fastest and most powerful expedition ship in the industry, with a Polar Class 6 (PC6) classification that enables her to sail in the Arctic and Antarctic regions.“These sea trials mark another successful milestone in the highly anticipated debut of Crystal Endeavor, bringing the award-winning Crystal Experience to the most remote places on the planet,” he said.Crystal Endeavor will set sail beginning 17 July with five 10-night immersive voyages circumnavigating Iceland’s most dramatically beautiful and fascinating locales. The Luxury Iceland Expedition voyages will sail round-trip from the ship’s homeport of Reykjavík and will be followed by the 10-night Journey of Vikings: Iceland & Norway from Reykjavík to Tromsø departing 5 September 2021. Constructed by German shipyard WV Werften, the vessel accommodates just 200 guests with a one-to-one crew-to-guest ratio delivering the personal and genuine service for which Crystal is known.
